The tour starts at the town hall of Senftenberg. Highlights include the “golden” painting of the town, the new town hall, the market with the postal milestone column, Kirchplatz with the German and Wendish churches, Töpferstrasse and Kreuzstrasse, the salt market as well as Senftenberg castle and fortress. The castle and fortress represented the most important starting point for the development of the town. Around 1860 “black gold” in the form of lignite was found here. Over the next 100 years, lignite mining and processing shaped the town and the region. The tour ends at the fortress and castle of Senftenberg.
