Archaeology to touch and experience: The Archaeotechnical Centre Welzow (or atz for short) is an extracurricular educational institution that has an activity programme based around archaeology and history. Where others have showcases, the atz provides families, adult groups and school classes with hands-on experiences instead.

The centre’s own exhibition displays objects on the topic of “Man – Wood – Archaeology” from 300,000 years of human history. On the adjoining open spaces, visitors can discover reconstructed originals from the Middle Ages found in the Welzow-Süd surface mine. The adjoining epoch garden has foods from 8,000 years of cultural history.

As an extracurricular educational institution, the atz organises theme-related project days for school classes and children’s institutions. One special offer here is the possibility to spend the night in a teepee in the idyllic epoch garden right next to the “stone-age sheep”. Teachers and educators can put together individually-tailored programmes for their children from the many creative offers and active games. At the atz, history is learned through play.

Dogs are very welcome.
