Visitors can clearly see the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture from the late Romanesque brick basilica. The magnificent stained glass and the choir room with the fresco paintings created by the church painter, amongst other things, are worth seeing in the interior of the church in addition to the late Gothic winged altar from the 16th century.

The Klosterkirche Dobrilugk monastery church is a three-nave brick pillar basilica in the form of a Latin cross with a transept, quire and apsis. It is generally assumed that the construction of the church and monastery began in 1184. The reported year of consecration is not documented as being 1228, but in view of the transitional style used in the church building it is quite credible. However, the west side may not have been completed until a short time later. The following years were used to expand the monastery complex.

After the Hussite invasion in 1431, a makeshift church was established. The monastery was secularised in 1541. Swedish soldiers inflicted serious damage on the monastery in 1637 and 1643 during the Thirty Years’ War. Since not all the damage had been repaired when Christian I, Duke of Saxe-Merseburg came to power, the homage sermon was held on April 22, 1657

in the parish church of Kirchhain. After the expansion of the castle, the duke increased the size of the monastery church. It was inaugurated as a Protestant castle and parish church on September 13, 1676.

Guided tours can be arranged in advance by telephone.
