This bathing area is a product of the last Ice Age. A popular natural bathing lake, it offers excellent water quality which is regularly monitored by the district's health department in accordance with the Brandenburg Bathing Water Ordinance. An expansive sandy beach provides the perfect spot for sunbathing. Between the high pine trees around the beach there are also shady sunbathing lawns. A small playground and a beach volleyball field are often used by families and groups for sports activities. Food and drink is available from a small kiosk, the Seeblick, which is supplemented by mobile stands. Großsee also belongs to the DAV waters in the state of Brandenburg and is very popular with anglers, and mushroom pickers will find just what they are looking for in the surrounding woods in autumn. The campsite Waldcamping Am Großsee is located directly at the lake and caters for both long and short-term campers. The Großsee recreational area is an ideal starting point for a discovery tour to the fishing and fortress town of Peitz and the Peitzer Land with its museums as well as the Spreewald and the Schlaubetal nature park. Cycle paths and hiking trails allow for active outdoor pursuits.
